Keeping an eye on the impacts of climate change, IRB(Re), the country’s largest reinsurer, has set up an area dedicated exclusively to research and development. IRB(P&D), as the initiative is known, is planning its first forum, which will bring together representatives of the market and the public sector, as well as experts from Brazil and other countries on climate risks and forecasting extreme events, on September 11th and 12th in Rio.

“The challenge for IRB(P&D) is in-depth knowledge. If we want to manage risks, we need to deepen our knowledge. It’s worth mentioning that this initiative is not a privilege of our company, so everyone is invited to take part in it. The forum is a good first opportunity to include various sectors in this debate,” says Marcos Falcão, CEO of IRB(Re).

The 1st IRB(P&D) Forum will focus on “Challenges and opportunities in dealing with Climate Risks”. On the first day, the event will feature executive panel discussions, including the unveiling of successful international experiences. A technical and scientific meeting on the overview of climate research in Brazil will take place on the second day.

Among the names already confirmed, besides Marcos Falcão, are Dyogo Oliveira, president of CNseg; Amauri Vasconcelos, CEO of Brasilseg; Marcos Pinto, secretary of Economic Reforms at the Ministry of Finance; and Carlos Nobre, scientist at the World Climate Research Program.
